Now Available: Bulk Editing

We’ve added bulk edit as a convenience feature to Managing Leads, Accounts, and Deals via the List Layout. Popular bulk edits so far are:

  • Tagging a set of leads / contacts with different personal interests e.g. Golf, Skiing, etc.
  • Moving ownership of accounts or leads / contacts from person A to person B e.g. Move all of John’s deals to Rick
  • Bulk change of a custom field to auto-email prospects e.g. Change a field like “Monthly Newsletter” to “September,” triggering an automation to send out an email newsletter

Don’t Use Fake Local Numbers

I got a call from SiriusXM tonight. Just like last night. And the night before. Each time, they used a different fake local number to trick me into picking up the phone. I did not like it. I asked to speak to the rep’s supervisor and asked to be put on their do not call list.

Did you know companies do this, often using CRM systems like FreeAgent CRM? They find your number and then pick from a bank of numbers in the same area code and auto-dial you. You pick it up more often because you think it might be CVS telling you about your prescription, or your kids’ soccer coach, and so on.

We do not offer this service nor will we. We believe how you acquire your customers matters. You need to treat them with respect from the beginning.

SiriusXM’s deceptions didn’t end with tricking me into picking up my cell. I recently tried to renew my subscription to their service using an offer they sent to me in the mail. They said it was $99 for 12 months. As I was checking out they tacked on service fees, royalty fees, and so on. Not taxes, but just tacked-on, made-up charges that were not in the initial offer. The real total was around $120. I didn’t renew. I didn’t really care about the $20 difference. But I cared a lot about them lying to me.

So, would I recommend SiriusXM as a company to do business with? No. The company is amoral and abusive to its customers.

What’s my point? How you run your marketing and sales organization matters a great deal.

Your methods are the truest signal of the values your company holds. They set brand perception long before prospects become customers.

Deceitful tactics are not rewarded in the long-term. Sure, it is a fact that using fake local numbers will boost pickups by up to 40%. So it is very tempting to use them. But why are you cold calling customers in the first place? And how will you overcome the deceit of their initial pickup?

Look at Netflix in contrast to SiriusXM. It’s very similar as a business and, arguably, it has much tougher competition. But at every turn, the company respects its customers and errors on the side of respecting them – even when they are pretty sure their service is being “shared” across families and so on.

The result? Sirius Holdings is worth less than 2x it’s IPO value from 1994 (24 years ago) while Netflix is over 300x it’s IPO value from 2002.

Unfriendly tactics directed at prospects do yield short-term sales results. But it’s my belief that sales #1 role is not revenue, but to protect and promote the brand of the company through building better customer relationships. And making that adjustment in your sales culture will yield sustainable long-term success.

So if cold calling, using fake local numbers, and changing the terms of your pricing on customers is how you want to grow your business, FreeAgent CRM is not a good fit.

Usability Refinements to FreeAgent CRM

We’re taking some big steps forward in usability for core pages within the FreeAgent CRM application. This blog post walks you through what we have done, are doing, and have planned – and includes some of the “why” as well.

The Problem: Inconsistency Across Leads, Accounts, and Deals

Today, leads, accounts, and deals all offer a slightly different user experience. This can make simpler things challenging – like knowing where to find an edit button, to having enough room to view a lengthy activity timeline, to understanding how to search.

When our project is complete all 3 areas: leads, accounts, and deals, will offer identical navigation and action options. So you will always know how to navigate and act, no matter where you are in the FreeAgent CRM app.

The “How”

The usability work involves several steps.

Step 1 – A common “detailed” page with an expandable Activity Timeline and central “Things You Can Do”

Step 2 – Standardizing the “rolodex” layout across Leads, Accounts, and Deals

Step 3 – Removing “card list” layout & adding customizability to rolodex cards

A common “detailed” page

You may have noticed these improvements already! Now for Leads, Accounts, and Deals you have a common detailed page with the same layout options and behaviors. The page supports expanding the Activity Timeline, especially helpful for Leads. For now, the Lead detailed page is accessible only from the List and Board layout views.

Standardizing the “rolodex”

The next phase of the project, currently under development, is to take the “rolodex” layout, improve it, and then extend it across Leads, Accounts, and Deals. Many of our customers are very excited about using the “rolodex” layout for Accounts and Deals since it makes navigating from record to record very easy.

Removing the “card list” layout & adding customizability to rolodex cards

The final phase of the project will remove the “card list” entirely & allow you to customize the “rolodex” layout to include whatever fields you think are most important for your business. This phase of the project is still in the design stage.

Emailing Attachments now ROCKS!

We’ve given you the ability to include Attachments in email sent directly from FreeAgent CRM. You can also include Attachments in templates! These are s-m-a-r-t. They work with Email Analytics i.e. you know whether your leads and contacts have opened your email or clicked on your Attachment & when they did so.

This is such a great capability for sales and marketing. Get your info out in an organized, professional way & track exactly who looks at what! We strongly recommend you try it out!


Now Available: Team and Individual Access Levels

We’ve added the ability to control Access Level for FreeAgent CRM users. Account owners of FreeAgent CRM can go to their “My Team” view and Edit a user account changing their access level from “Team” to “Individual.” Individual access limits a user’s view to Leads, Accounts, and Deals they are assigned. Let us know how this new capability works for you!


IMAP Email Integration Support

Although Gmail- and O 365-based corporate email is very popular, we’ve found many small businesses use Yahoo! or a myriad of other email service providers. So we’ve introduced support for an IMAP & SMTP-based email integration to FreeAgent CRM. No matter what email you use we can tie it into FreeAgent CRM and automatically keep your sales efforts organized. Enjoy!


FreeAgent CRM Pricing Update

We’ve updated our pricing for new customers to $29 USD per user per month in the US and Canada, and $499 MXN in Mexico. We think this pricing reflects tremendous value – less than $1 a day to get Email Analytics, Rich Templates, the Best Email and Phone Tracking in a CRM, and a ton of customization capabilities.

Lead Automation – Phase 1

Today we’ve introduced the first set of changes to better support Lead Automation in FreeAgent.

We’ve enhanced the “rolodex” view of Leads, and now show you at a glance how many Attempts you’ve made to contact your leads. We show you the lead status & any Next Steps you need to accomplish. Next Steps will be very, very useful quite soon – we will use Next Steps to give you the ability to do email drip campaigns and automatically set followup rules.

We’ve also enhanced the List view of Leads, adding a “Next Steps” field so you can see all the upcoming actions you need to take with your leads. This is sortable! So you can pull up your leads & sort them by the ones that most need your attention. Good stuff!

Along with these changes you’ll notice a friendlier “big font” menu, and, just like in our native mobile apps, each section of our CRM is now color-coded! Leads are green, deals are blue, and so on. We’ve found these “color cues” help keep you on track and super focused in the App.
