5 Stretches You Can Do at Your Desk

Stretching can help you maintain blood and oxygen flow throughout the day and increased blood circulation is shown to be vital to your health. So help your company save money on health insurance and start stretching with these simple stretches you can do at your desk.

1. The "I Can’t Think About This Anymore" Triceps Stretch

  1. Raise your arm and bend it so that your hand reaches toward the opposite side of your back.
  2. Use your other hand and pull the elbow toward your head.
  3. Hold for 10 to 30 seconds.
  4. Repeat on the other side.

2. The Casual Sniff Check Overhead Lateral Reach Stretch

  1. Extend each arm overhead and clasp your hands.
  2. With your palms facing the ceiling reach to one side.
  3. Hold for 10 to 30 seconds.
  4. Repeat on the other side.

3. The Contemplating Life Shoulder/Pectoral Stretch

  1. Clasp your hands behind your back. 
  2. Push your chest outward, and raise your chin.
  3. Hold the pose for 10 to 30 seconds.

4. The "I Didn’t Realize How Tight My Hips Were" Seated Figure Stretch

  1. Seated in a chair, cross one leg on top of the other so that your ankle is sitting over the opposite knee.
  2. Place one hand on the knee of the top leg.
  3. Gently lean your trunk forward while pressing gently on the top knee until you feel a mild to moderate stretch in the hip and buttock area.
  4. Hold the stretch for 15-20 seconds and repeat 3-5 times on each side.

5. The "I Need A Pedicure Or New Shoes" Hamstring Stretch

  1. Safely sit on the edge of your chair with your right or left leg bent for stability and the other leg straight. 
  2. Keep your back straight and gently lean forward. 
  3. Hold pose for 10 to 30 seconds.
  4. Repeat on the other side.

Stretching is a simple but effective way to keep yourself feeling good throughout the day. Muscle soreness and tension is a distraction you don’t need and a few minutes is all it takes to relieve these symptoms, allowing you to focus on what matters.
